1. life lately

i can’t believe how fast this summer has flown by. we only have a month left in NYC before heading back to chicago/south bend and it feels like we’ve done everything and nothing so far! there’s a new project at work that has me in a dither and PKS is (happily) working like a dog but we’re making a joint effort to soak up as much as possible while we’re still here. whether it’s the heat or a deliberately downshifted speed of production on my end, i’ve been a bit quiet. but all’s well and good and here are a few notes i’ve been meaning to share…

wear: this rosario linen cascade dress from calypso ($165) has been in heavy, heavy rotation for the past few weeks (MoMA opening, lobster party at the club, running errands around town). it’s light and easy, but with some well-designed touches (an asymmetrical hem and racerback cut) that make it extra special.

eat: post-MoMA opening last week, we went out late-night w/ my bosses (in from chicago) to momofuku noodle bar. good food, good space, good time. now we just need to make it to saam bar and ma peche and momofuku ko and…

see: last friday, kelsey (my history buff bff) and i had a Met day. we met on the steps at 10AM and didn’t come out until afternoon. it was the most fun i’ve had in awhile. my favorite? the small, but worth-the-trip exhibit of ellsworth kelly’s plant drawings. get there! (until sept 3)

listen: when we were out in greenwich w/ friends for the 4th, we were introduced to songza. it’s like pandora but based on day, time, activity and mood. which for the 4th was ‘sexy pool party.’ and even now, sitting at my desk in the city? i still find my way back to ‘sexy pool party’ even though it should mostly be ‘work or study.’

use: it might be that kelsey’s a dentist or that i’m a sucker for clever design, but these toothbrushes by the month from izola are perfect. how fun?

shop: i remember my father saying a few years ago that, once upon a time, everyone would head to new york for major shopping trips in hopes of seeing what’s new, getting what you couldn’t get in ft wayne, IN, etc. well, frankly, that’s not really the case anymore. we have the internet! every store is in every non-descript mall in the US! the one place that still piques my interest (and makes a trip to soho not seem like hell) is treasure & bond. 100% of their after-cost profit goes to charity and their inventory is a who’s who of cool brands. win-win.

(ok, what else am i missing? any suggestions for these last few weeks?)
