a weekend in denver
always one of my favorite cities in the US, i marvel at each unique neighborhood, shop and restaurant every time i touch down in denver.
sure, it helps to have a local in the family but even if it wasn’t her home or the gateway to the vail valley (where my parents live), i think i’d still visit frequently. PKS and i even throw around the possibility of moving there one day.
i landed friday midday with the best livery service i know - my sweet sister. we rushed to hillstone for lunch, hot tea in these amazing staub teapots and family catch up.
prepping for the evening, i decided now was the time to break out my newly acquired fanny pack which i found terribly convenient though you can imagine the jokes everyone churned out. the jury’s still out on this one - and that horrendously awkward pose? forgive me.
the rest of the gang arrived in time for dinner at one of JJ’s wonderful recs for the weekend: colt & gray.
the cocktails, the food (oysters!), the dessert! while i’m not one to indulge in dessert very often, our handsome waiter (why is everyone there so good-looking?) suggested the (gluten free) potted cheesecake with salted caramel sauce. i almost wept it was so spectacular.
but that would have been uber uncool and with the crowd in the place, i wouldn’t be so gauche. such a fantastic spot - thank you JJ!
the only thing i missed was a trip to the clyfford still museum - the newish place dedicated to one of the preeminent (but little known) american abstract expressionists. but it’s OK.
i’ll be back as soon as i can.
